Due to the rapid growth of the new town in the course of industrialization, the old town was preserved in a unique urbanistic cohesion and is a special ensemble under monument protection.
The colorful town houses in the typical Inn-Salzach design are remarkable because of the gable walls and rich facade decorations.

The town also offers plenty of accommodation. A modern youth hostel and some splendid star hotels and Bavarian guesthouses offer numerous opportunities to stay overnight in Burghausen.
